Blocking and bypass diodes.

Blocking diodes are sometimes used in small systems with no charge controller to prevent power from feeding back to the solar panel from the batteries at night.

Bypass diodes are not needed on 12 volt systems, you do not need a blocking diode if you are using a charge controller.
